SECRET BAY RANKED #2 OF JUST 10 RESORTS IN THE WORLD IN HARPER’S BAZAAR TRAVEL HOT 100

Secret Bay has been featured in the much anticipated Travel Hot 100, the just released annual listing of hot and trendy destinations published by Harper’s Bazaar. “The spark of the unfamiliar is what inspires – it’s what makes us see the world afresh” says Catherine Fairweather, Associate editor/travel director with Harper’s Bazaar. “It’s good to feel like you’re in on a secret….”

Secret Bay was ranked #2 of just 10 in the Resorts category. Only one other resort in the Caribbean was listed. The Travel Hot 100 list is a selection of “the best of the best” in various categories including Destinations, Trends, Cities, Journeys, Resorts, Villas and Spas.

Introducing Secret Bay as a resort with just “two private bungalows and villas”, the article goes on to mention Secret Bay’s “discrete service 24/7” and its unique concept. “It has no reception, restaurant or bar but is a hideaway stocked with Kindles, sound systems and personal chefs.” Referring to Secret Bay’s “spectacular views of neighboring Guadeloupe” and “the beautiful white-sand Secret Beach… only accessible by kayak,” the feature also captures the essence of Dominica: “The pristine Caribbean island of Dominica, a haven for hikers, whale watchers and birders, has verdant beauty, dramatic black volcanic sand, thermal pools and countless waterfalls and rivers.”

Fairweather, in her introduction of the Travel Hot 100 list, says that “adventure is certainly a buzzword for 2013” and “regardless of how isolated the retreat, levels of service are being raised to ever more surprising heights.” Echoing this sentiment, The Knot recently selected Secret Bay and Dominica as one of the top 10 destinations in the world for “Adventure Honeymoons”.

About Secret Bay:

Secret Bay is becoming known as one of the best boutique resorts in the Caribbean – and indeed the world – for honeymoons, anniversaries, small family escapes and adventure vacations. Selected by Travel + Leisure as one of the best new hotels in the world, by TheKnot as one of the best honeymoon destinations in the world, and now by Harper’s Bazaar as a top resort, Secret Bay is making waves in the Caribbean and beyond.

Situated on a cliff-top promontory overlooking the Caribbean Sea, Secret Bay is unique in its diversity: two secluded swimming beaches, a spectacular sea-cave; the magical Cario River and two distinct micro-climates. The secluded villas and bungalows were conceptualized by award-winning Latin American architect Fruto Vivas, to maximise the natural beauty of Secret Bay and to minimise the impact on this pristine environment.

Hearst Corporation (www.hearst.com) is one of the largest diversified media and information companies. Its major interests include ownership of 15 daily and 36 weekly newspapers, including the Houston Chronicle, San Francisco Chronicle, San Antonio Express-News and Albany Times Union; hundreds of magazines around the world, including Harper’s Bazaar, Good Housekeeping, Cosmopolitan, ELLE and O, The Oprah Magazine; 29 television stations, which reach a combined 18 percent of U.S. viewers; ownership in leading cable networks, including Lifetime, A&E, HISTORY and ESPN.

About Dominica:

In a region saturated by tourism, Dominica remains one of the hidden gems of the Caribbean. Dubbed the “Nature Island” due to its abundance of natural splendours: 365 rivers, the second largest boiling lake in the world, volcanoes, mountains, waterfalls, hot springs, and black and white sand beaches. Much of the island is protected under national parks, one of which has been given UNESCO World Heritage status. Dominica is a paradise for divers, hikers, birdwatchers and nature-lovers. Despite being one of the largest islands in the Caribbean (754 sq. km) it is one of the least populated (72,660) (twice the size of Barbados, it only has one fifth of its population). It is also one of the few islands to have retained some of its pre-Colombian population.
