Perhaps the most memorable way to explore the hilly, lush terrain of Dominica is on horseback. Set out upon a rainforest excursion as you weave through the Waitukubuli National Trail, immersing yourself in the wetland that is home to a variety of wildlife species and both native and migratory birds. Enveloped by abounding foliage, you will also enjoy matchless views of the black sand beaches of Douglas Bay (1-1.5 hours).
For a full day adventure, embark upon the Fort Shirley trail excursion and roam through the restored ruins of an 18th century garrison, the most historical site in Dominica, drink in the views of volcanic peaks and stop for a picnic lunch before heading back upon the Waitukubuli National Trail.
Or, choose to cool down on a beach excursion as you traverse through the forest on the Waitukubuli National Trail and onto Purple Turtle Beach, swim bareback along the Dominica shoreline and return to Secret Bay while submerged in the beauty of the Cabrits Peninsula (2 – 2.5 hours).
