Newsweek Report: Why the Caribbean Island of Dominica is the Perfect Place to Live & Work Right Now

A worldwide “remote-working revolution” is signaling a surge in demand in tourism industries across the globe. The ability to work from wherever opens up a literal world of opportunity for thousands — if not millions — of people to live nearly anywhere they choose.

Catering to both temporary visitors and those seeking a more permanent but optimized place to live and work, Dominica is on track toward an even more beautiful, bustling future. In partnership with Newsweek, Country Reports recently released a feature on the future of tourism — Citizenship by Investment and prosperity in Dominica. Secret Bay’s own proprietor Gregor Nassief spoke with Newsweek about the resort’s philosophy and promises to future guests and villa owners.

Of the trends noted in the report, Nassief predicts an increasing influx of live-work travelers and prospective citizens to Dominica, and more specifically, Secret Bay.

“We have guests booking more than 70 nights, enjoying the balance of work and ‘living in nature’,” Nassief shared. “We anticipate this trend to continue as travellers are seeking the transformative nature of extended and more immersive and personalised vacation experiences.” As travellers seek out the perfect locales to live and work, more and more are looking to Secret Bay for its tailor-made experiences for every type of guest.

While short- and long-term vacations have been at the heart of Secret Bay’s operations, the pivot to nomadic or flexible lifestyles is opening the door for the resort to facilitate a more permanent relationship with Dominica for interested parties.

Ownership at The Residences at Secret Bay — through either shares or whole-ownership — allows those seeking solace in paradise to take advantage of the country’s Citizenship by Investment programme, which allows for a 90-day path to citizenship.

Secret Bay’s fully furnished villas are equipped not just with the necessities, but with all the luxuries you’d want in a home: seamless indoor-outdoor floor plans, private jungle-steeped plunge pools, chef’s kitchens with state-of-the-art espresso makers and more. Pair that with full access to all resort amenities, including an on-site, hyperlocal restaurant, open-air spa and wellness facilities, complimentary equipment rentals for all types of island adventures — among so much more — and life is a dream for remote workers, retirees and more.

Considering the current climate, Nassief reiterated a commitment to health and wellness to Newsweek: “On-island, visitors are required to stay at a certified ‘Safe in Nature’ property and are free to explore the island by land and sea on approved ‘Safe in Nature’ experiences, creating a ‘tourism bubble’ from which to enjoy the sights and sounds of Dominica.” Secret Bay’s StayWell Promise and Dominica’s 100 percent recovery rate make now the perfect time to consider a long-term stay or dual-citizenship through Citizenship by Investment [in The Residences at Secret Bay].”
