A Warm Welcome to Secret Bay’s First Guests

Guest Arrival

November 1, 2018 was an incredibly special day for us at Secret Bay. Not only did we celebrate our reopening, but we likewise welcomed back our first guests—Shevora and Jared Edy. We feel so grateful to share the beauty of Secret Bay with visitors once again, and this lovely visit from our first honeymooners proved to be an auspicious start to a new chapter on the Nature Island. We sat down with the newlyweds to learn about how they chose Secret Bay and why, of all places in the world, it was the most idyllic place to disconnect and celebrate their love.

How did you first hear about Secret Bay?
We had been looking at potential honeymoon locations for a while but we couldn’t find exactly what we were looking for. One of Shevora’s colleagues mentioned that she had been to Secret Bay a couple of times and suggested that we take a look online. As soon as we did, we knew this was where we wanted to go for our honeymoon!

Wedding

What about Dominica, or Secret Bay in particular, made you want to celebrate your honeymoon here?
Secret Bay came off as extremely unique and authentic. Very luxurious, but very personal. Very romantic and quiet, yet there was also the opportunity for adventure. We like to focus on doing things off the beaten path, doing something different, and we certainly found this at Secret Bay. The same goes for Dominica—it was in a part of the world we had never been to, it required a connecting flight from JFK, none of our friends had been there, etc.

What most surprised you about Secret Bay upon arrival?
Secret Bay not only lived up to our expectations, but it exceeded them. We had very high expectations and obviously a ton of excitement for our honeymoon but it ended up being everything we wanted and more.

Guest Arrival

Did you two indulge in any couple’s treatments? Which ones?
Yes! We LOVED our daily couple’s massages with Ginette and Fred. So much so that we did these daily during our honeymoon—both on the sunset deck and at our villa.

Did you embark on any wild adventures outside of Secret Bay’s gates?
Yes! We did quite a few, including Titou Gorge, Trafalgar Falls and the sulphur spas during a day trip. We also embarked on a fishing excursion (our favorite part being that Chef Grant prepared our catch for dinner that night at the Zing Zing Restaurant); Indian River tour with Fire; the Portsmouth Saturday Market; a Secret Beach picnic; and a sunset sail on our last day to cap off the trip. We definitely enjoyed all of these as they were all unique Dominican island experiences. But if we had to pick favorites, Jared would pick Titou Gorge and Shevora the sunset sail.

Overall, what was your favorite part of the trip?
Completely disconnecting and enjoying time with one another and all that Secret Bay has to offer.

Outdoor Dinner

What was your favorite part of Secret Bay?
We are going to cheat and give two answers since there are two of us! The food and the incredibly personalized service from your amazing staff. We are by no means ‘foodies’ but every dish was so well done and the whole hyper-local focus was an incredibly cool concept to us. Further, everyone we encountered who worked at or with Secret Bay was so attentive—they cared about making us feel welcome and making our stay the best it could be.

If you could put your honeymoon into 10 words or less, what would you say?
Incredibly tailored experience of luxury in a serene, natural setting.

What’s one memory or detail from your honeymoon that you’ll never forget?
Waking up in the morning to that endless, peaceful view of the Caribbean Sea from our Zabuco Villa.
