10 Pivotal Moments in Secret Bay History
10 years ago Secret Bay opened its gates for the very first time. Since that treasured day, we’ve had the honour of hosting many of our guests’ most special moments—and for that, we are extremely grateful. 1. The Vision of Secret Bay Was Born
Since boyhood, Secret Bay owner Gregor Nassief had a lofty dream—to create a home away from home amongst the wild forested cliffs of Dominica and to preserve the natural environment. While celebrating the nuptials of Gregor and wife Sandra, Sandra’s father and award-winning Latin American architect, Fruto Vivas granted the couple a special gift—a proposed drawing of their personal residence at Secret Bay. With Fruto, Sandra and Gregor’s combined visions, the villas that comprise the living, breathing eco-luxury resort at Secret Bay came to life.
2. Secret Bay Welcomes Its First Guest In Zabuco Villa
Secret Bay’s original Zabuco Villa is where the beautiful dream of Secret Bay began. Built on the exact spot at the end of the peninsula where proprietor Gregor Nassief planned to build his dream home, Zabuco I captures the resort’s inherent aura of romance, providing the ultimate escape for those in love.
3. Secret Bay Appears On Its First Cover Of Travel + Leisure Magazine
Secret Bay appears on its first cover of Travel + Leisure Magazine with the full page cover photo featuring the view from our Zabuco Villa alongside the headline “Secret Caribbean,” and inside a 10-page lead feature on Secret Bay, declaring: “Dominica finally has a world-class resort to match its stunning natural assets.” For details see here.
4. Secret Bay Welcomes New Amenities
Secret Bay welcomes new, luxury amenities for guests including the Zing Zing Restaurant, Gommier Spa, Bwa Mang Wellness Pavilion and Zamann Watersports Hut.
5. Secret Bay Joins Relais & Châteaux

8. New Welcome House & Amenities Are Announced
Creating a transformative, unforgettable haven for worldwide travelers has always been at the forefront of our design here at Secret Bay. And now, this world-renowned vision is set to expand as plans are drawn up for the new Mouben Welcome House & Funicular, Bwa Denn micro-brewery and Gwiyavye’ Lap Pool & Bar, set to debut in November 2021.
9. Travel And Leisure Names Secret Bay Among The 500 Best Properties In The World
Travel + Leisure released their top 500 list, in which Secret Bay was ranked the #1 Resort in the Caribbean and #6 Hotel in the World by Travel + Leisure readers. Travel + Leisure highlighted our private villas, surrounded by “lush, dense vegetation” and the feeling of being “the only person for miles around” as top differentiators. This comes after countless accolades and awards over the last decade.
